Description
Musa acuminata is a fast-growing, fruit-bearing banana plant that thrives when provided with abundant amounts of sunlight, and kept well-watered with occasional misting to re-create the hot tropical enviroments of southeast Eurasia where they were first domesticated by humans over 7,000 years ago! Please ensure these plant's are overwintered where the temperatures remain at or above 10°C such as a window top where they make excellent ornamental displays and provide great cover-foliage for much desired privacy.
Phytochemistry:
The peels of the banana fruit, specifically from Musa acuminata, have demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory properties through their butanol extracts in live rats. A recent study found that when the internal gastrointestinal tissues of rats were exposed to acetic acid (vinegar), resulting in a severe inflammatory response, this was effectively reduced by the butanol extracts of M. acuminata fruit peel. This suggests promising potential for developing plant-based anti-inflammatory treatments that could benefit a wide range of individuals suffering with chronic gastrointestinal issues, such as irritable bowl synsrome (IBS).
